Introducing Denim Week 2026: A New Chapter in a Global Movement
This year, we are proud to launch something new.
From April 27 through May 1, Respect Together, the Pennsylvania Coalition to Advance Respect (PCAR), and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) are bringing communities across the country together for the first-ever Denim Week.
While Denim Day has been a powerful, global moment of protest and solidarity for more than two decades, Denim Week marks the next step forward. For the first time, we are expanding that single day into a full week of action, reflection, and collective impact.
Because one day is powerful.
But a full week of action can move a movement forward.
Building on a Powerful Legacy
Denim Day began in 1999 after the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction, arguing that the victim’s tight jeans implied consent. In response, women in the Italian Parliament wore denim to work in protest, sparking international outrage and action.
Since then, Denim Day has become a global symbol with a clear message:
Clothing is never consent.
Denim Week builds on that legacy. It takes what has long been a powerful moment and transforms it into a sustained, collective effort to deepen understanding, expand engagement, and inspire action.
Why Denim Week, and Why Now
For decades, survivors and advocates have led this movement forward. They have spoken out, built systems of support, and pushed for change in communities across the country.
But we also know this:
Awareness alone is not enough.
Denim Week is designed to move us from awareness to action. It creates space not just to show support, but to demonstrate it through education, advocacy, storytelling, and community engagement.
This first year is about building something bigger. A national campaign that:
- Invites more people into the movement
- Provides tools for meaningful engagement
- Centers survivor voices and experiences
- Strengthens our collective commitment to prevention
A Movement You Can Be Part Of
Denim Week is for everyone.
Whether you are an advocate, a survivor, a community leader, or someone just beginning to learn, there is a place for you in this movement.
You can take part by:
- Wearing denim and sharing why you support survivors
- Hosting conversations or events in your community
- Using your platform to challenge harmful narratives
- Supporting local sexual assault centers
- Participating in campaigns like Threads of Support to help fund critical services
Every action, no matter how small, contributes to a larger culture shift.
Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning.
Denim Week 2026 marks the launch of a new national tradition, one that builds on decades of advocacy while creating new pathways for engagement and impact.
We are excited about what this week represents, but even more excited about what it can become.
Because when people show up together with purpose, with urgency, and with care, real change happens.
And this week is about showing up.
Together, we can turn awareness into action and continue building a future free from sexual violence.
