This April, Respect Together’s national division, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC), is celebrating an incredible milestone: 25 years of the national Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) campaign.
Since 2001, NSVRC has led the national SAAM campaign through creating free awareness-raising and prevention education materials to help communities across the country engage in Sexual Assault Awareness Month each April.
This year’s theme, “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” honors the history and growth of the movement while reaffirming our commitment to building a safer future for everyone. Looking back, we remember the survivors and advocates who laid the foundation for change. Moving forward, we renew our focus on prevention, healing, and action.
A Milestone for the Movement
For 25 years, communities across the country have come together each April to raise awareness and work toward preventing sexual abuse, assault, and harassment. What began as an effort to elevate survivor voices and spark conversation has grown into a nationwide movement involving advocates, educators, students, community leaders, and organizations of all kinds.
SAAM continues to be a time to reflect on progress, honor the advocates and survivors who have led the way, and recommit to building communities where everyone is safe, respected, and supported.
What to Expect from the 2026 SAAM Campaign
As part of this year’s campaign, NSVRC is offering a variety of free resources and tools to help individuals and organizations participate in SAAM.
These materials are designed to make it easier for communities to raise awareness, spark conversations, and promote prevention in ways that resonate in their locality, region, or state.
Campaign resources include:
- Social media graphics and messaging to share throughout April
- Weekly themes to help guide and structure your participation
- Templates, including the SAAM 2026 proclamation, to support community engagement
- Printable posters that organizations can customize with their own contact information
- The #30DaysofSAAM Instagram contest, which provides an interactive way to participate and win prizes
- Event and activity ideas to help bring the campaign to life in your community
Whether you’re part of an advocacy organization, a campus group, a community coalition, or simply someone who wants to support prevention efforts, these tools can help you participate in meaningful ways.
Share Your Voice: The SAAM 25th Anniversary Reflection Line
To mark this milestone year, NSVRC is also inviting advocates, survivors, and community members to participate in a special SAAM 25th Anniversary Voicemail Reflection Line.
This interactive project gives SAAM supporters an opportunity to share their personal reflections on the movement. Participants can leave a voicemail responding to prompts that look back on progress and change or ahead to the next chapter of the movement.
- “One thing I am most proud of in my work to prevent sexual violence is…”
- “The biggest change I’ve seen in this field over the years is…”
- “My vision for the next 25 years in the movement is…”
- “When I think about a world without sexual violence, I feel…”
Selected voicemail recordings may be featured as part of future SAAM storytelling and podcast content, helping capture the voices and perspectives that continue to shape this work.
